Pictures from the Conference

The sculpture Sólfar (Sun Voyager) by the artist Jón Gunnar Árnason (1931–1989) is a modern sculpture made to resemble a Viking ship. It is situated at the waterfront near the old harbor of Reykjavík City Center on the street Skúlagata. Viking ship is a collective term for ships used during the Viking Age (800-1100) in Northern Europe. The ships are normally divided into classes based on size and function. For some of the tourists the ship reminds them of a big insect with 10 legs when they look at it from a certain view. The artist was fascinated by the sun and his work was in many ways influenced by it. The sculpture was unveiled in 1990. Standing by this sculpture during sunset, is an unforgettable moment. For more photos see: Flickr group site
